What to Pack for a Sahara Desert Tour

What to Pack for a Sahara Desert Tour

A night in the Sahara is the highlight of almost every Morocco itinerary, but it rewards a bit of planning. Here's what our guides recommend packing.

Clothing

  • A warm layer (fleece or jacket) for desert nights, even in summer
  • A scarf or turban-style wrap to protect against blowing sand
  • Closed, comfortable shoes for the camel trek and dune walking
  • Sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat

Essentials

  • Reusable water bottle — we provide refills along the route
  • Sunscreen (high factor; desert sun is intense)
  • A basic first-aid kit and any personal medication
  • A power bank, since desert camps run on generators or solar power with limited outlets

Good to know

Most of our itineraries, including the 3 day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, include a camel trek at sunset and an overnight stay in a semi-permanent desert camp with real beds — you don't need a sleeping bag unless you specifically request the more rustic camping option.
